Which one do you more closely identify with?
I feel a lot like the Mad Hatter and not just because of the amount of tea I consume in a day. I don't usually have tea parties but maybe I should start? It might make this whole business of staying in and writing more fun.
It's been so long since I blogged, I hope you don't all feel too abandoned? I've been unable to pin myself down in one place long enough to write anything recently. However, I have started on some semblance of a routine thanks to 'The Artist's Way.' I managed to pilfer a copy and today is day 3 of following Julia's workbook. The idea is that creativity is a spiritual pursuit and I love it as it ties in very well with Dawn's teaching. I am enjoying writing my Morning Pages which is a way of emptying your mind of all the mundane clutter and allowing you to move into a more creative mindset.
It has reminded me that creative energy needs to be nurtured and encouraged and I realised I had fallen away from some of Dawn's most essential teaching about being gentle with ourselves. I've been too focused on time and money and that is not a positive place to be in.
I've also been distracted by this online dating business. It's proving to be quite an experience. I've long since given up on meeting my mister right this way but it is providing very interesting research. The best insight has been that when men confuse us, it's not because they're clever and do it intentionally - it's because they have no idea what they want or really what they're doing either. We're all as lost as each other. I find it rather comforting.
I still haven't met anyone I like as much as The Gentleman but when I had decided to cancel my subscription I was asked out by 5 men in the space of three days! I somehow have to fit these five dates into the coming weekend..........
Diary of my journey of self-development and the impact it has on my life and writing career. . .

Spring is in the air
I woke up this morning with the most delicious feeling of contentment and happiness.
I stretched out in my big double bed thankful that I didn't have to share it, leaned back against the pillows and enjoyed a full cafetiere of coffee all to myself and a few quiet hours reading. With Valentine's Day coming up it is easy to moan about being single, and I have done. But I was reminded today of the luxuries of being single.
A long uninterrupted lie in is one, freedom to plan my own time is another. The weekend stretched shiny and clear ahead of me. With no commitments this weekend I decided to take time out for me.
Feeling rested and refreshed, I ventured out and headed down to Duddingston Village. Out in the warm sunshine with a blue sky above me, it felt like a spring day.
I loved walking through the tiny village admiring the picture book cottages and houses. As I walked I let myself daydream about the people who lived there, what they were like, what they did for a living and if they felt happy every morning waking up in their beautiful surroundings.
I also pictured myself living there, the window in my study looking onto the garden, (big enough for my future children to play in.), friends coming round and the house sounding of chatter and laughter.
By the time I came home, my head was full of these dreams and I felt recharged just from being out in nature.
In my last post I shared that I had begun online dating. The first date went really well and The Gentleman and I had a further two dates. On our third date we did some pottery painting at The Ceramic Experience in Leith. We had quite a giggle! I was delighted that you could paint animals and chose an elephant. Nellie is blue and purple with big girlie eyelashes. She turned out really well.
That was our last date and although I was disappointed as I really did like him, we've stayed friends. Even though things didn't go according to plan, my first online date was still a success and I look forward to many more...

Dating Delights
Like most of you I started off 2011 with a list of New Year Resolutions...
At the end of the first month I'm on track with some biggies, like losing weight and exercising more. This is the toughest one for me to stick to. I'm proud to announce that I'm half-way to my target weight.
I've also revived my social life and I'm spending more time with my friends. Recently, just contemplating the idea of moving away made me realise how happy I am here. I have an amazing and supportive group of friends and I absolutely LOVE living in Edinburgh.
The main theme for me this year is trying new things. So, about a week ago in the spirit of adventure, I boldly entered the world of online dating!!
I know a few happily married couples who met online but I've also heard some horror stories. The most regular offence seems to be people putting an old picture online and when you meet them they are about 10 years older than they said they were. I've had pretty awful dates in the past, one that sticks out is a guy who turned up with a whole bundle of clothes stuffed in a Lidl bag!?!
Worst case scenarios were running through my mind as I went to meet my first date. His profile photos were lovely and he came across as smart and funny in his emails, but I was braced for disappointment. When I stepped into the cosy wee coffee shop, it was empty except for two patrons, both women. My heart sank. Had he stood me up?
Before I had even taken my coat off, he phoned apologising profusely and appeared five minutes later. When he arrived I had to stop myself staring as he was even better looking than his photo. From that rather embarrassing start we had a great date. He won me over with his sincerity and charm and we emerged from the coffee shop three hours later still laughing and chatting........we have our second date next week
Having embarked on my new dating experience I was delighted to see that Dawn Breslin is running a special Dating Workshop on Saturday February 12th at the Malmaison Hotel in Leith. If any of you ladies reading this are single, I encourage you to check out the details on Dawn's Consciously Female Website here

Happy New 2011
Here we are at the end of the first week of 2011.
Doesn't Christmas seem like ages ago? I hope you are all having a spectacular start to the year. How are the new year resolutions coming along?
My year started with an unexpected dose of the January Blues and I know I wasn't the only one. For me I think it was a natural reaction after all the hype and excitement of Christmas.
To help dig myself out of the blues I reminded myself of all the good things that 2010 brought;
* My first ever publishing contract
*The realisation of my lifelong dream - I became a self-employed writer in April
* A gorgeous one-bedroom flat all to myself
*I met one of the most inspirational women on the planet - Dawn Breslin
* Had the life-changing privilege of doing Dawn's Consciously Female Silver Programme
* My book Prozac & Prayer: A Brief Memoir of Madness was released as an e-book and Amazon Kindle book
* Volunteering opportunities with Oor Mad History and Health In Mind
Once I started looking for the positives of the previous year I couldn't stop. I've limited the list to the major goodies that happened. What would your 'Good Things of 2010' list look like?
What are you hoping for in 2011?
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11
